1993 - Scout Headquarters Building - Austin Road, Kowloon ( HK$400m) |
| A highly complicated multipurpose
building which incorporates a basement, a bus terminal, a
multi-storey carpark with a ramp, a large multipurpose
hall for the scouts with a headroom of 10m and a clear
column span of 24m, telephone exchange and a hotel into
one single structure. A double transfer system is called
upon in which the first transfer layer is used to
transfer the loadings from the carparks, telephone
exchange floors and scout offices over the large span
scout hall. The second transfer layer occurs at 13/F
where the shear wall layout of the hotel is transferred
to the column layout of the scout office, telephone
exchange and carparks floors. Moreover, the entire building has to withstand substantial lateral soil load as the building is built abutting the Kowloon Park at a level of 17m higher than the basement level of this building. Retaining caisson wall was therefore required. We are appointed by the Client as both the Architect and Structural Engineer for the project. The building has been in operation since 1993. |
