1994 - New World Saigon Hotel - Ho Chi Ming City Vietnam (HK$470m) |
| Located near the town center of
the Ho Chi Ming City of Vietnam. The building is a 12-
storey high luxurios hotel tower with 616 guest rooms
sitting on top of a 2-storey high podium. Developer is
the New World Hotel International Group. Total site area
is about 12,000 meters square. The hotel project is one
of the most significant foreign investments in Ho Chi
Ming City since the change of the economic climate in
Vietnam in late 80's. Because of the shortage of materials and rather backward status of the local construction industry at the time, design of the structure has to be engineered to cope with the local situations. Piling foundation therefore employs a frictional-pile scheme with more than 1500 nos of 34m long 350 x 350 square precast reinforced concrete piles. And the superstructure adopts a R.C. construction with a conventional column-beam frame structure. Nevertheless, huge transfer girders are called upon to cater for different column layouts of the hotel tower block and the podium. In pioneering a major project in this socially, economically and technologically backward country, there are many unknown yet critical factors which need to be resolved first. Extensive research works such as soil investigation, availability of materials and labours etc have to be carried out before the actual planning of the project could commence. The building commenced its operation on September 1994. |
